Antique 1930s Art Deco Pierrot Table Lamp Alabaster Globe Marble Base
Spectacular, highly collectible piece of authentic 1920s-1930s European Art Deco lighting. This striking figural lamp features two acrobatic Pierrot characters (the classic melancholic Czech jesters) in a symmetrical, feet-up contortionist pose, while balancing a sphere on their soles. The sleek, machine-age lines and high-contrast materials make this a prime example of high-style Deco design. Provenance & Markings: This piece features an authentic, period-correct stamped country of origin mark (“Slovakia” / “Czechoslovakia”) incised on the raw underside of the heavy black stone base, preserved beneath the remnants of the original protective felt. This mark firmly dates the piece to the peak 1930s European Art Deco export boom, ensuring its status as a genuine period antique rather than a modern reproduction. Figures: Highly polished cast metal/spelter with a brilliant silvered/chrome-plated finish, exhibiting a beautiful period patina. Shade: A genuine, hollow-carved alabaster globe shade (not molded or frosted glass). Features beautiful natural, translucent veining that diffuses light into a soft, warm, moody glow. Base: Thick, heavy slab of polished black stone marble with crisp beveled edges. Features its original porcelain-insulated candelabra socket and aged cardboard insulator sleeve. Equipped with a period-correct, dark brown ribbed Leviton Bakelite inline toggle switch (6A-125V, 3A-250V) with Underwriters Laboratories UND. Stamps, dating to the late 1930s. Fitted with its original braided/twisted two-strand cloth cord. The lamp turns on and functions perfectly as shown in photos. The silvered finish on the figures remains bright with minor age-appropriate surface patina. The marble base is solid and clean. The alabaster shade has incredible natural stone variance and sits on the figures’ feet without removal. As with all true vintage lighting, the original cloth wiring shows light fraying near the switch; it is recommended that buyers may want to rewire to meet modern safety codes! If it needs to be rewired then do so and have it stay out for a beautiful display piece.
