This ANTIQUE Art Deco Dancing Pixie Lamp “Gerado” by J. Hirsch is a unique and stylish hand painted piece that embodies the Art Deco movement of the 1920’s. With a vibrant, delightful design, marble base, glass dome, and metal sculptures, this accent pixie lamp is sure to add a touch of antique charm to any space. The pixie is wearing a dance outfit with a tutu skirt and a floral embellished top with hood, and is in a classic dancer’s pose. The lamp’s original design and craftsmanship by creative artist J. Hirsch make it a collectible item for those who appreciate classic lighting pieces with a touch of whimsy. Although this is not the original alabaster shade, it is a beautifully domed, cut glass shade measuring 5 in height and is consistent with the Art Deco period. It sits atop an alabaster ring attached to the metallic columns (shade is not attached). The glass shade measures 11″ in width and 6″ in height, and is quite unusual – I’ve never seen one like it! It gives a lovely prismatic effect to the lighting. The 46 white cord does not have an on/off toggle, but the lamp works perfectly. The lamp with shade measures 13″ in height, 11″ in width and has a 7 diameter marble base. There is very slight paint loss to the pixie and the pillars, consistent with its antique age. This is quite a heavy piece, with the lamp itself weighing 6 1/2 lbs. And the shade almost 4 lbs. At the turn of the century, the Art Deco style began with the “French Bronze” distinctive style in Paris, France. One of the artists who followed this movement was J. Hirsch, a Romanian emigre who founded J. In 1907 in New York’s Lower East Side. He produced newel post lamps used at the foot of staircase bannisters in brownstone houses. On the eve of the 75th Anniversary of the J. The “Collection Francaise” was exhibited at the Paris Lighting Exhibition in January 1981. Lamp and Shade in good shape.. There are some flea bite tiny chips on the inner globe where over the years it was removed to replace the Bulb (pic 11, 12, 13, 22). READ—When removing shade you turn it and pull, as it is attached with a metal ring that can be bent to increase or decrease the tightness/tension. (pic 23 with the blue pin shows that part, right top of inner metal) If it is to loose after attaching it you will have a gap and slight sag (Pic 18 shows that). After you get good at removing the shade, you can also stick something down there to press and release the metal tension that the blue pin is pointing at when you start to see it. Also comes with an LED bulb so you wont have to remove the shade often. It doesnt give off a ton of light as its more of an accent piece..
