1st generation friction disc Edon desk lamp. Extra heavy, solid cast iron shield base. Designed as a ” fancier” desk lamp, and scaled as such. Much shorter arms than the industrial task light versions. Love the rivets on the arm brackets. I believe this is the only model that used rivets. Trying to remember if any of the early task lamps used them- anyone have or recall? This one is all gussied-up in black repaint(originally, these were black), Hubbell socket and nos? A minty, original finish, looks unused Faries shade, remnants/ outline of the waterslide decal shown in photos. New grey wire and polarized plug.

This a rare dark bronze and bright nickel version of the iconic classic Machine Age Art Deco “Guardsman” lamp and dates to the mid 1930s. The original Guardsman was designed in 1936 by the industrial designer B. Dickerson for Faries Manufacturing Company of Decatur, Illinois. Faries was known for quality desk, office and shop lighting from the 1920’s through the 1940’s. Faries art deco desk lamps are recognized for their Machine Age and Moderne designs and are highly valued by collectors. This lamp is notably well made and is quite substantial. The original bronze finish has some wear but nothing that detracts from the overall beauty of the piece. This lamp was sought after by Hollywood set designers and is notably in the Irene Dunne Cary Grant classic film “The Awful Truth” (1937) in the courtroom scene; it shows up in numerous other classic films. (I’ll try to upload some photos). Works great, the wiring is in good condition but please check it out yourself before use as it is nearly 90 years old!

You’re looking at an antique cast brass desk lamp in very good working condition and dating to approx the 1920s. This light is very nicely made and the arm moves forward and back, holding in place while the neck pivots the Holophane style shade up and down. The brass brackets holding the socket are slightly out of shape but it’s not very noticeable. It possesses a great patina from decades of use. It shows wear commensurate with age including scuffs, marks etc; which add to the character and authenticity of the piece. This item has been rewired with black cloth-covered cord and a new plug. This is One of the best original Faries wall mount dental lamps you will find. It has been gently cleaned to not damage the awesome patina. As you can see I have mounted it on a wood base for easy display as a Cool lamp or wall mount. This lamp has several adjustable positions, it swivels and articulates. I has been rewired with brown cotton twist wire and a period plug with new insulator. It has the original GE socket with new insulator.
