La Société anonyme Edmond Etling (Etling & Cie) commença son activité dédition et de fabrication de bronzes et dobjets dart en marbre et en terre cuite en 1909 à Paris dans la Galerie Béranger, au 158 ter rue du Temple. Etling produisait également dès cette époque des cristaux gravés, des garnitures de bureaux et des lampes électriques. Il obtint en 1910 une série de récompenses, notamment à Bruxelles en 1910 et Turin en 1911. Cest en 1929 que la société devenue prospère ouvre un magasin rue du Paradis et développe la production dobjets en verre moulé-pressé réalisés par les verreries de Choisy-le-Roi. En recherche permanente de nouveaux talents à éditer, elle organise dans les années 30 une série de concours avec lÉcole des Beaux Arts de Paris. Durant loccupation allemande en 1940 et suite aux lois sur le statut des juifs édictées par le régime de Vichy, Etling alors âgé de 62 ans est interdit dexercer ses fonctions et remplacé à la tête de son entreprise. Sa société renaîtra dans les années 50 sous le nom de « Editions Paradis ». Cette exceptionnelle lampe champignon à décor de dahlias en verre moulé pressé fut éditée dans les années 30 par Edmond Etling. Elle est tout à la fois signée « Etling 810 France » sur le chapeau (photo 6) et « Etling 21 France » au dessous du pied (photo 12). Elle mesure 42 cm de hauteur et pèse 4,7 kilos, le chapeau seul mesure 21 cm de hauteur et 30 cm de diamètre. Le verre pressé est dépoli, avec un travail très précis de repolissage par zones, et présente loriginalité dêtre patiné au centre de chaque fleur dans une tonalité légèrement jaune orangée. Si les produits utilisés pour obtenir cette patine demeurent inconnus, on remarquera quils résistent remarquablement à la chaleur, à leau, et à lusure du temps. A noter que le pied de cette lampe fut également commercialisé par Etling en vase. La monture en fer forgé à trois bras de maintien est celle dorigine et le chapeau sy ajuste parfaitement. Les retours de bras sont constitués de deux boules à facettes chacun. La ferronnerie présente quelques traces doxydation mais aucun manque ni aucune restauration. Les deux verreries sont en très bon état, sans aucune fêlure ni éclats. La lampe séclaire tout à la fois dans le pied et le chapeau. Cette lampe a été recâblée avec un fil neuf torsadé gainé de tissu noir, les deux douilles sont à baïonnette B22, prise et interrupteur sont neufs. Edmond Laurent Etling founded his business around 1909, his shop was located at. 29 Rue de Paradis in Paris France. With obvious great vision and instinct for desired style, his retail business became very admired and respected for its innovated and high-quality designs which were produced in an array of mediums. Designs from some of the top freelance designers & artist of the period. Apart from grey or frosted glass, much of Etling’s glassware was made of opalescent glass. Edmond Etling was without doubt one of the key players in the Art Deco movement. On an interesting yet very sad note, being Jewish resulted with Etling, his entire family and his glass workers all being rounded-up and sent to Nazi concentration camps where they met their deaths during WWII. Referred to as St Therese or Madonna with Child, this is really a beautiful Art Deco Period piece and. The rarest of all versions (large child). The nice detailing and deep opalescent glow give it an elegant and graceful persona which is only further enhanced upon the lighted base. The statue is properly signed. ETLING FRANCE with molded marks. Overall measurements are approx. 12½ tall by 4½ at widest (statue in base). The figure alone measures approx. 10¾ tall by 3 at widest. She is in Excellent condition, free of any cracks or repairs with minimal age-related wear; only able to find one minuscule nick/chigger on robe and some lite wear on the bottom rim that sits in base. The lamp does work with the cord at some time having been replaced with a newer plastic one.
