What should I do if my lava lamp becomes cloudy? A troubleshooting guide is included with all Lava Lamps. If additional help is needed you can use the following technique. Set up your Lamp using the instructions provided in the box. Don’t turn your Lava Lamp on immediately. Wait 24 hours so that the wax can settle to the bottom of the globe. Turn the lamp on until the wax has softened and starting to flow. This step may take 8-10 hours. Then turn the lamp off and let it completely cool down. This step may take up to 3 hours depending on the size of y our Lava Lamp This step is critical as it is the cooling process that clears the lamp. During the cooling down process the wax starts to fall and acts like a Velcro pulling these small particles of wax together. Depending on the size of the lamp and how broken up the wax is in your lamp, you will need to repeat these steps 2-3 times per day for 3 to 14 days. Each subsequent cycle of running your Lava Lamp through a hot then cool down cycle will collect more and more wax particles. Over a short time your Lava Lamp will clear up. Do not set up your lamp in areas that may get too hot or cold such as near heating or AC vents or in a window in colder areas. Unnecessary hot or cold areas can contribute to the cloudy issue with your Lava Lamp. To prevent this in the future, don’t move or shake lamp while warm – and especially don’t shake or drop the bottle! Are lava lamps safe? Lava lamps are safe so long as you know how to use them! If you have children, make sure to keep them out of reach. “Look, but don’t touch” definitely applies to lava lamps. Don’t touch a lava lamp that’s on or has been on recently; they get very hot! Don’t leave the lava lamp on for too long. If the light is on but the wax has stopped flowing, this could be a sign of overheating. Make sure the area around your lava lamp is clean; don’t leave clutter (especially paper) around. The liquid in lava lamps is non-toxic, but you should never break or force one open.
