Olive Kooken Antique Arts & Crafts Art Deco Brown Leaf Golden Ceramic Lamp Base
Olive Kooken Antique Lamp Base & Brass Fittings. This is a beautiful old family item that needs rewiring and a shade. The base has a plaster core and a plated copper cladding shell in the shape of a squat onion bulb seated on a 3 footed base. I has a large Dore pattern on the metal clad base. The colors are gold with brown-colored leaves in a four repeat pattern on the base. The lamp fittings include a Benjamin 2 socket double pull chain socket attached to a brass cluster body and the finial. Chains are 4 inches. Weight is about 8 pounds. The base is 10 inches in diameter. Lamp height is 15 inches. Lamp dates to early 1900’s. No noted maker’s marks. Sockets are marked Benjamin 250. One source: Olive Kooken was an American artist that created these beautiful lamps in the 20’s and 30’s. She designed them and the Armour Bronze Co. Produced them using a complicated and expensive technique that is no longer used. Each lamp has a plaster core which was slowly plated with a copper cladding shell. Condition : As shown and described above. I do recommend your own laundering or dry cleaning method on vintage or pre-owned items. Ours is a smoke-free and pet-free home that does not use harsh chemicals or sprays, but vintage items have been exposed to unknown factors. Pre-owned items are outdoor air hung for freshness when possible.
