Vintage Chrome Art Deco Dc-3 Airliner Lamp Ashtray Smoking Card Table Airplane
Iconic 1940s Era Art Deco Chrome DC-3 Smoking Stand Table. In Excellent Condition with Working Cabin Lights, and Propellers. For your perusal is this fine rare chrome finished Douglas DC-3 airplane smoking or card table. In great overall condition for its’ age. Era would be mid to late 1940s or early 1950s. This particular smoking stand is a table with a beautiful chrome finish, rather than an ashtray which you will see in many of these stands. But it does have a tobacco/cigarette box and an ashtray that rest on top of the table. These post WW 2 Airplane (DC-3) Smoking Lamps, Tables and Ashtray are simply so very kitsch, kool, eclectic, nostalgic and totally funky. They exude lost simplicities, smoking lounges, game parlors, drink rooms and old fashioned charm and style. They most certainly were mainly manufactured in Canada beginning in the late 1940s and into the early 1950s. All parts of the airplane stand seem to be original. Interior cabin light operates. There appear to be no missing parts. The cabin light on/off switch on the underside of the aircraft has been newly replaced. There is a small area of chrome loss on the top of the horizontal stabilizer at the rear (see photo). Also an area along the bottom of the base about 6 inches long that has suffered some chrome loss. Height is approximately 33 inches. Airplane span is approximately 13 3/4 inches. Fuselage length is approximately 9 1/2 inches. About these 1940s Era Airplane Lights, Tables and Ashtrays. Copied from an article in Canadian Aerospace, titled “Canadian Ashtray Stands”. The history of these airplane lamps, tables and ashtrays goes back to several manufacturers in Toronto and Montreal. There were some made as table top lamps and models. There were 5 different airplane castings in brass, chrome and or silver-wash like finishes. They were marked or labelled “Metalcraft”, “Florentine”, “Tuscan”, “Thaus Lamp”, or “Electrolite”. They came with 6 different propeller styles. All were made in Canada from at least 1945, through the mid 1950s. Cast in varying qualities of pot metal, they could be fragile.
